Is Adopting Right for Me?
Before You Bring Home the Purrs...
Adopting a cat or kitten is a joyful and meaningful commitment.
Before bringing a furry friend home, take a moment to reflect on whether you’re ready for the responsibility, love, and lifelong care they deserve.
Things to Consider
Adopting a pet is a big decision. Cats and kittens require time, financial commitment, and lifelong care—sometimes for 20 years or more. While adoption can be incredibly rewarding, it’s important to think carefully before welcoming a cat or kitten into your home. Here are a few things to consider.

Your Lifestyle
Do you travel often, and are you home enough to care for a cat?

Your Age
Will a cat outlive you, and have you planned for their care if they do?

Your Finances
Cats require ongoing costs for food, vet care, and supplies.

Your Goals
Make sure a cat fits into your future plans, not just today.

Your Household
Everyone in your household should be comfortable and involved.

Your Availability
Cats need daily attention, care, and companionship.

Your Home
Do you have space for play, litter boxes, and quiet areas for rest?

Your Schedule
Are you too busy or spread to thin to give a cat the care and attention they need?

Your Other Pets
Consider how a new cat will blend with current animals?

Your Other Cats
Not all cats enjoy feline companions, and that’s okay.
Questions to Ask
Choosing to adopt from a rescue shows compassion and responsibility.
But, before bringing a cat or kitten into your home, please take a moment to consider the following questions.
Can you afford my ongoing and emergency medical care?
Will you still love me when I'm an adult and no longer a kitten?
Is now a good time? Do you have the time and love to give me?
Are you prepared for the ups and downs (including scratched furniture) of caring for me?
Are you prepared for the cost of my food and medication?
Who will care for me when you're away or on vacation?
What are all the reasons why you want to adopt me right now?
Can you care for me for my entire life (up to 20 years)?
